A new wintering site for the endangered black - faced spoonbill was found on hainan island during a waterbird survey organised by the hainan provincial forestry bureau and kadoorie farm and botanic garden from 29 december 2003 - 5 january 2004 . a total of 47 black - faced spoonbill and and one eurasian spoonbill were recorded near sigeng in western hainan - a new site for the species 海南省林业局与嘉道理农场暨植物园于二三年十二月二十九日至二四年一月五日期间进行了一项水鸟研究，期间在海南鸟发现濒危物种黑脸琵鹭的新越冬地研究人员在海南西部的四更镇附近纪录得47头黑脸琵鹭和1头白琵鹭的踪迹。
